Join the Great Big School Clean
At Keep Britain Tidy, we believe that no one is too small to make a big difference.
And when we all come together, that big difference becomes a huge one.
If every child who attended school in the UK pledged to pick up just one bag of litter during the Great Big School Clean, we could remove 10.3 million bags of litter from our natural environment.
Join the Great Big School Clean this spring and be part of the #BigBagChallenge - make a big difference to care for the places and the planet we love.
How to join the Great Big School Clean
Let us know how many pupils will take part and how many bags they pledge to collect by clicking the pledge button below. We encourage nurseries to join us too!
You can start picking up any time from now until the end of term.
Once you’ve made your pledge, you’ll receive a digital pack of resources for teachers, by e-mail, to help you activate the campaign in your school. The pack contains:
-
A ‘How to’ litter pick guide for schools
-
Litter Bingo
-

Details of our litter competition with the Vintage Litter Museum
-
Thank you certificates for your #LitterHeroes
What is the oldest piece of litter your school can find?
Your pupils may be fascinated by stories of very old litter and how it still survives to this day - litter lasts a lifetime.
During the Great British Spring Clean and the charity’s platinum celebrations, the UK’s Vintage Litter Museum in Woodbridge, Suffolk, is raising awareness of the permanence of litter dropped by people decades ago.
We are launching a special competition with the museum giving schools taking part in the Great Big School Clean the chance to have the oldest piece of litter they find during the campaign to be officially exhibited in the museum’s collection - complete with a special sign featuring the school’s name!
For your chance to take part please sign up for the campaign for details of how to submit details of the oldest item you find (don’t forget to keep hold of it), and make sure you tag us @keepbritaintidy if you share it on social media!
